Every Cup is a Ritual
Ritual is not a word we chose lightly. Self care gets dismissed as luxury. We disagree. The smallest acts of care are often the most powerful. Show up for your morning, whenever that is. Make it yours. Do one small thing every day, just for you. That is the ritual. That is where everything starts.
The Origin Story
How It Started
In 2021, I was admitted to the hospital after a complication during what was supposed to be a routine procedure. I expected to go home later that day. Instead, my doctor walked in the next morning with the results: stage 3 endometrial adenocarcinoma. Not exactly the discharge plan I had in mind.
What followed were two surgeries and several months of chemotherapy. A dear family friend opened her home to my husband, my two dogs, and me while I went through treatment and recovery. The days after chemo were the hardest.
On those days my mom showed up. Every time. With coffee. One for her, one for me. We'd sit on the couch and watch The Crown. She didn't make a big production out of it. She'd just walk in the door, hand me the cup, and settle in. For an hour or two, we could focus on the royal family's problems instead of mine.
When you're in the middle of something like that, you start to notice the small things that carry you through. For me, it was her, and it was that cup of coffee. And that sometimes the thing that gets you through the day can be as simple as a good cup of coffee.
During my treatment I reached out to my father about building a coffee brand together. We talked about it for months. The timing wasn't right. So we let it go.
In 2022 I received my NED confirmation. No evidence of disease. Life slowly started to look like itself again. Then in 2025 my father called and asked if I was still interested in the coffee idea. I didn't hesitate.
Gris Gris Coffee Co. is what happens when you come out the other side and decide to build something that matters. Something rooted in New Orleans, in resilience, and in the belief that a small act of care; repeated daily, done with intention, can carry you through almost anything. Every cup is a ritual. We mean that. But also... it's just really good coffee.

The Philosophy
The Ritual is the point
A ritual is not a word we chose lightly.
Self care gets dismissed as luxury. We disagree. The smallest acts of care are often the most powerful. And the most overlooked one happens at the start of every day, whenever that is for you. Before the noise, the notifications, the obligations. That moment is yours.
We believe how you begin your day shapes everything that follows. Not because of magic. Because of intention. When the foundation is solid, everything built on top of it holds. A foundation is not given. It is chosen.
When you slow down long enough to do one small thing just for yourself, you are telling yourself that you matter. That today matters. That you showed up. That is the ritual. That is what we are here for. Not just the coffee. The intention behind it. And that is foundational.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
The Three Principles
I
Do Good
Good coffee. Good people. Good intentions. We believe in doing good with what we have. In the cup, in the community, and anywhere else we can reach.
II
Have a Good Time
Life is heavy enough. We make coffee that takes itself seriously so you don't have to. Enjoy the ritual. Enjoy the cup. Enjoy the morning.
III
Make It Better
You can't control everything. But you can control how you start. We are here for the part of your day that belongs entirely to you — and we take that seriously.
